Native Ivy is a photography blog that connects local and independent creative businesses to a new audience.
My name is Ruth Kelly. I am passionate about lots of things in life. Two of these passions I feel particularly strong about are locally made products and creative photography. I launched Native Ivy in November 2017 with an aim to combine these two passions and provide a service for local makers, to help promote their businesses through my own photography. Over the last ten months, I have had the incredible opportunity to work alongside some amazing local businesses such as Lines & Current, Enrich & Endure, Flax Fox, Paperchain, OutsideIn – just to name a few. It has been fantastic getting to know the people behind these businesses, capturing their unique creative processes, learning more about the stories behind each product and finally helping them to share this with the world.
I have been passionate about photography for around ten years and have captured many people, places and things along the way. Truthfully nothing has excited me more than the work I am currently
doing for Native Ivy. I love meeting new and interesting people with a passion for what they do. I
love learning about their lives and what led them to the creative path they are on. I love finding out the meaning behind their business name and what they enjoy most about their own work. I love stepping into their shoes for a day and using my camera to tell their story the best way I know how.
I am currently living and working from my home in Belfast. Being in the city has really opened my eyes to how surrounded we are by local talent. I feel so lucky to have met so many local makers from Belfast, and further afield, who are successfully getting their products out there. It’s really awesome to witness the support and respect everyone has for each other. It’s like we are all in one big team, a team that encourages each other to keep hustling, keep improving and constantly pushing for better. It is an incredible community to be part of, and it is incredible that I get to share this community with others.
