TREND SPOTLIGHT – OCT 2018
A breakdown of the latest trends of the season.
Glossy fabrics dominated the A/W18 runways, with models clad in traditional high-shine materials like leather and strutting their stuff in more edgy styles made from latex, vinyl and pvc. Designers like Karl Lagerfield particularly took to this trend with glossy co-ords appearing at his Chanel show and patent trench coats adorning his Fendi catwalk. Mary Katrantzou in her typical off-beat style opted for a glossy take on pastels and Maria Chiuri embraced metallics at Dior.
CHANEL – AW18
FENDI – AW18
MARY KATRANTZOU – AW18
DIOR – AW18
If you are looking to include the high-shine metallic trend into your wardrobe, be considerate of your skin tone. If you are naturally warm-toned, gold will suit you more, whereas those who are cool-toned among us are better suited to icy silver shades. As for vinyl, this can be trickier to incorporate. Sticking to one piece per outfit is a good rule-of-thumb to follow and stay away from black where possible. Unfortunately, it’s a little too easy to stray into ‘Neo from The Matrix’ territory with this trend, especially when slim sunglasses have also seen a resurgence of late! But then again, if 90’s Keanu Reeves is your style poster boy, go for it.
